The Women’s Humane Society’s Animal Ambulance program assists with the following animals being surrendered to our custody and care:

  •  Unwanted or seriously ill pets from owners who have no way of bringing their animals to our Bensalem shelter.
  •  Healthy, unwanted animals for possible inclusion in the adoption program.
  •  Injured stray animals that are in the care of a caller.
  •  Stray animals that have been injured and are immobile in the street or are in the custody of a caller requesting service.  We can not try to capture loose animals.
  •  Seriously ill pets requiring euthanasia are also transported to the Society, where euthanasia is performed.
  •  Pets that have died in their owner’s homes.

Because the Society is not an animal control agency, we cannot pursue healthy stray animals that may be running free.  If stray animals are a problem in your neighborhood, please contact your local animal control department.  Your police dispatcher can assist you with the provider of this service.

A small fee is required for all services. To schedule a pick-up or for more information, call 215-750-3100 and ask for the Animal Ambulance Service or press 27.  Ambulance service can usually be obtained on a same day basis during the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

There is a modest fee for the pick up and there are additional fees for other services, such as euthanasia.
