We are grateful to our friends who help keep the Women's Humane Society operating through their generous donations.  If you would like to make a financial contribution, please click on the "Donate Now" through JustGive.com button to the left of this page or send a check to:

Women's Humane Society

3839 Richlieu Road

PO Box 1470

Bensalem, PA 19020.

We are a not-for-profit organization as designated by IRS Section 501 (C) (3), and your donations are tax-deductible as allowable by law.

This list has been updated in June of 2010 to reflect our current needs and full storage space on some of the items that are commonly donated.

We can use the following items for homeless animals:

  • Unopened cans and bags of dog and cat food
  • Brown's Shop Rite's and Redner's receipts (You must use your Sav A Tape card at check out at Redners in order for their receipts to qualify).
  • Clay cat litter  (we do not need scoopable or clumping cat litter.  We change our pans daily and these litters are designed and priced for long term use)
  • Low-odor Pine chips or Yesterday's News bedding product (no cedar chips please, the cedar oils are an irritant to the tender nasal passages in small animals. Some argue that strong pine smelling chips can have the same affect. The safest bedding is a product called Yesterday's News made from compressed newsprint.)
  • Bottles of bleach. Bleach is used to clean animal areas.
  • We kindly request that you hold onto blankets until the winter months as storing blankets in our facility during the summer months can result in mice who take up residence with us to find prime real estate in the blankets.  When we take them out for use in the winter, they are chewed into a comfy mouse nest and soiled.

The following items are offered to the visiting and adopting public. They help pets transition successfully into a new home:

  • No-pull harnesses
  • Canine seat belts

Kindly refrain from donating the following:

  • Most treats contain mostly filler ingredients that further increase the risk of digestive upset.  High quality treats and dog food contain meat as the number one ingredient with rice as the primary filler.  Corn is a popular affordable base for pet treats and food, has some nutritional benefits, but can not be tolerated in large amounts by some dogs and is more difficult to digest than rice.  It can lead to diarrhea in the stressful life of a homeless dog.  Similarly, the food colorings used in some food and treats can contribute to stomach upset.  We typically get more treats than we can forward to adopters or use for training and socialization purposes with shelter animals.
  • Pallets of bleach.  When stored over time, bleach can lose its potency.  For health reasons, we need our bleach as strong as possible and request or make purchases of gallon-sized containers
  • cardboard cases- while some rescue groups will use the cardboard containers that hold cans and bottles, all our cats use stainless steel litter pans.  Additionally, these temporary litter pans function best when any plastic liner is kept in place.  Kindly research a rescue group that is in need of temporary pans as opposed to donating the cardboard cases here.

The following suggestion was forwarded by a pet lover and is included here in her words:

I am an animal lover and have rescued many pets etc over the course of my life.... so I am sending this idea out to addresses of non-profit  rescue organizations who are always looking to get  assistance to improve the quality of their wonderful cause!

I was just thinking of a  wonderful  alternative to a gift for those wedding couples  who have to "ponder" over what kind of a place setting to get or whatnot and list on their vast registries...... I don't know if something like this is already in place but I thought this would be a wonderful  in many ways...

Instead why not set up donations to a non-profit organization.  It could also be tax deductible!!

It could go like this:
"In lieu of a gift we really do not need as a viable necessity"...
we would  LOVE  it if you could make a tax deductible contribution of your monetary choice to the Women's Humane Society which helps to enrich the lives of our animals in our area ..Anything you can contribute would be highly appreciated and regarded as a wonderful wedding/birthday/anniversary/Christmas/Hanukkah present to us.

Maybe your organization could benefit from an idea like this... and others you might know of as well.  Just an idea I wanted to share...have a great day!  :)

Have a great day...
