Ambulance service is available for animals being surrendered or deceased animals.  Call 215-750-3100 Ext 27 to arrange for services and obtain costs.

A donation is generally requested and appreciated to help defray our costs.  We have no animal control contracts so we receive no tax dollars to provide services for animals.  Each month, the money collected through shelter donations and fees fail to cover the expenses of caring for shelter animals.  We understand this is part of our mission, but also will request that you have a role in preventing abuse and neglect by making a donation at the time of the surrender of a healthy animal.   The donation on a potentially adoptable animal does not impact the disposition of your pet or a stray animal.  Animals are offered/remain available for adoption or are euthanized based upon their adoptable qualities and risk factors.  A surrender donation merely assists us in defraying medical and basic care costs.  We recommend a $35.00 donation on each animal.  If you are a business owner surrendering animals found or living on your property, we request a $20.00 donation for each animal.

You will be asked to pay the following fees for euthanasia services on an animal that can be determined to be unadoptable at the time of intake.

Euthanasia followed by a mass cremation  (no return of ashes) fees as of July 2009 are:

Up to 25 lbs

$50

26 to 50 lbs

$60

51 to 99 lbs

$70

Over 100 lbs + the weight over 100 pounds

$100 (so for a 120 pound dog the fee would be $120)

Again, if the animal clearly meets the criteria for being unadoptable at the time of intake, we will request the euthanasia fee determined by your pet's weight at the time of surrender.  The same qualities that you can not tolerate may make the animal unadoptable.  Additionally, our experience since our inception in 1869 has given us wisdom about the qualities that place animals at risk of abuse or neglect and harm to others.  Once euthanized, animals are cremated in a contracted mass cremation at another facility.

You may surrender your pet for euthanasia or your deceased pet for cremation.  The fee for deceased animals that are surrendered to us are the same as fees for the euthanasia of surrendered pets.  Our cremation provider also offers individual cremations  with the ashes being returned to our facility for your pick-up for an additional charge that begins at $185.00 for an animal up to 5 pounds.  This fee increases as the weight increases.

Please keep in mind that shelter services are for surrendered animals, not pets and their owners.  For this reason, owners will wait in the lobby or say their final good byes in the lobby prior to the euthanasia procedure or shelter veterinary intake exam.  If an owner wishes to view the remains of their pet following the euthanasia procedure or walk back out the door with an animal that does not pass the intake exam for health or behavior reasons, they may do so.

If you wish to surrender a suffering animal, view your euthanized pet's remains or leave with an animal that does not pass the intake exam, please visit during the adoption hours to make sure the shelter vet is on site:
