*Optional services

** The first canine influenza shot will be given at the time of the intake veterinary exam. The booster shot, which costs an additional $22.00, can be given 2 weeks after the first vaccine.  If this much time has not elapsed prior to the adoption, the vaccine should be obtained during the follow-up veterinarian examination at our veterinary clinic. If the animal has been at our facility for the two week period between vaccines, the shot will be given at the time of the adoption veterinarian exam and fee will be due at the time of adoption.  All three of these veterinarian exams, the distemper services vaccine, and wormer are included in the recommended donation.

***This $20.00 amount is the recommended donation on all rabbits, cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies.  You may choose to leave more to support our mission.  If you desire to pay less because of your financial constraints or are unable to afford this donation and related medical expenses, you are encouraged to wait until your financial situation changes to bring an animal into the home.  "Can not afford" or "lost home and new home will not allow pets" is a common reason for surrender and we do not want to set you and the animal up for these difficult situations by following through on an adoption to a cash strapped person.

Rabies shots are given to animals over the age of 12 weeks.  If your puppy or kitten is too young for the rabies shot, the fee will be due when the vaccine is given at the follow-up exam or a later visit for puppies and kittens leaving at under 10 weeks of age.  If another visit is needed for this vaccine following the free follow up exam, the $25.00 exam fee will apply.

If the animal has already been spayed or neutered, you will not be charged the surgery fee.

The adoption veterinary examination given to your pet before you take it home includes any blood tests you want done, booster shots that are due, and the microchip if you choose to have this done.

We will put Frontline  on your new pet to kill and prevent fleas if there has been 3 weeks since the animal was treated for fleas at the time of intake.  A single dose is $18.00.  Packages with 3 doses are available and pricing depends upon your pet's age and weight.  If live fleas are noted on a pet that has been treated within the past three weeks, we will treat with a dose of Cap Star which will kill all live fleas for a 24 period following the dose.

We will give a dose of heartworm medication (available in a 6 month supply) following a negative heartworm test on animals over 5 months of age.  Heartworm preventive can be started without a heartworm test on animals well under 5 months of age.

These medications have an additional charge of approximately $30.00 through $50.00 for a large animal. The charge may be slightly less or more depending upon your animal's size, age, and weight.

Adopters are entitled to a free two-week follow-up examination at our veterinary clinic. While the examination fee for this visit is being waived, you will be responsible for paying any charges for shots, tests or other procedures performed at the follow up exam.  The fee for the Feline Leukemia/Feline AIDS/Heartworm test at the time of the follow up visit increases to the clinic fee of $51.00 unless you pre-pay the adoption/shelter rate of $30.00 at the time of adoption because the kitten was too small to draw blood or another Society-caused reason.

Animals four months old and older will be spayed or neutered before being released to you with the exception of tiny dog puppies who may not large enough to be safe for surgery. If your new pet is younger than four months old, you will pay for spaying or neutering at the time of the adoption and return for the surgery when the pet is old enough with the exception of large breed puppies which may be recommended for surgery prior to discharge.  It too young or too small for surgery prior to adoption, we recommend you make the surgery appointment at the time of your follow-up exam.  You will be asked to leave a $25.00 deposit to secure the surgery date.  This deposit will be applied to the surgery exam on the date of surgery.  Please learn more about what to expect on your surgery date on the Clinic Hospital web page.

You can choose to have your own veterinarian perform the surgery on animals that are not viable for surgery at the time of adoption. All animals that are old enough to reproduce will be altered before leaving the Society to prevent an unplanned pregnancy.  We will reimburse (by mail, staff can not give out money to visitors), the spay/neuter deposit total left on the date of adoption.  The deposit total left on the date of adoption will be refunded by mail once we have received proof that the surgery has been performed by another vet.
