Information for Rescue Groups

We are fortunate to work with several rescue groups that accept animals that are either unadoptable under our adoption program guidelines or are unlikely to be adopted for various reasons. Because our dog adoption program is so successful, we have no need to place adoptable dogs with rescue groups.

Please disregard any emails that you receive stating that our adoptable dogs are in danger of being euthanized. These emails come from other groups who are under the false impression that there is an immediate need to rescue dogs listed on our website. While we do euthanize unadoptable dogs, adoptable dogs find homes very quickly. Many dogs find new homes within a week of being placed in our adoption program, particularly if they are purebred.

If you are interested in pulling elderly or special needs animals from us, please forward information on your organization in hard copy form to the attention of Karen Webb, Adoption Supervisor, at the mailing address found on our home page. Include information on the number of animals each foster parent may care for and your minimum hold period for animals that need behavioral rehabilitation in order to be considered adoptable.

Please note if your rescue is a non-profit organization or if you are an established rescue group but aren’t a designated a non-profit organization. In order to protect our animals, we only work with established rescue groups, not individuals. We will terminate pull relationships if there is evidence that decisions were made that were not in the best interests of the animals.

While we appreciate your willingness to help, we have found that rescue organizations often are uninterested in pulling animals that we have determined are unadoptable. If these animals haven’t met our guidelines for adoption, there is a good chance that they won’t meet yours either.

A Note to Shelters Wishing to Send Dogs to the Society:

We accept dogs from overcrowded shelters up to two hours away from Bensalem, provided the dogs are in good health. If your shelter is located in another state and you wish to send dogs to us, you must hold a current broker’s license. A license is needed because there are donations and fees associated with adopting an animal at the Society. If your shelter is located out-of-state, you have a current broker’s license and you can provide transportation of healthy dogs to our facility, please contact us at whshelpline@aol.com.
