Donation Information
We are grateful to our friends who help keep the Women's Humane Society operating through their generous donations. We are a not-for-profit organization as designated by IRS Section 501 (C) (3), and your donations are tax-deductible as allowable by law. If you would like to make a contribution, please send it to: Women's Humane Society, 3839 Richlieu Road, PO Box 1470, Bensalem, PA 19020.
We can use the following items:
- Clean old blankets and towels
- Unopened dog and cat food - cans or dry food (Name brand only, please: shelter life is stressful for animals and can increase the risk of digestive upset. Economical pet foods and most treats contain ingredients that further increase the risk of digestive upset. High quality foods contain primarily meat. Rice as the primary filler. Corn is a popular affordable base for pet food, has some nutritional benefits, but can not be tolerated in large amounts by some dogs and is more difficult to digest than rice as a filler. It can lead to diarhhea in the stressful life of a homeless dog. Similarly, the food colorings used in some food and treats can contribute to stomach upset.)
- Blue or blue bordered-on-the-back Acme and Sav A Tape member Redner's receipts. You must use your Sav A Tape card at check out at Redners in order for their receipts to qualify.
- Cat litter (not the scoopable kind)
- Newspapers- We line our cat and small animal cages with standard-sized, non-shiny newpapers. To further assist us, you may pull the shiny paper and odd-sized circulars or magazines and donate neatly stacked standard-sized sections only.
- Pine chips or Yesterday's News bedding product (no cedar chips, please: the cedar oils are an irritant to the tender nasal passages in small animals. Some argue that strong pine smelling chips can have the same affect. The safest bedding is a product called Yesterday's News made from compressed newsprint.)
The following items are offered to the visiting and adopting public. They help adopters to start out right with their new pet:
- Dog crates, especially large, and cat carriers. New or used are fine.
- Pet toys. Nylabones, Gumabones, Boodabones, Kong toys, and Rhino Rubber toys. New are preferred for health reasons. (no rawhide please: aggressive chewers may tear off and swallow chunks of rawhide that may become a choking hazzard or impacted in their intestines leading to death or major surgery). Please no cat nip as cats' responses vary and can include cat's becoming aggressive.
